Market and competitor study: the foundation of the study

Every number in the financial study starts in the market: how many customers, at what price, against whom. A weak market study cannot be rescued by any financial model.

What it answers

  • Who is your customer, where do they live or work, and how much do they spend?
  • How large is demand within your location’s catchment, not the whole city?
  • Who competes in that catchment, at what price, and what are they missing?
  • Why would a customer choose you?

Competitor analysis around the location

A real competitor serves the same customer in the same catchment. The analysis starts from a map of the distance your customer usually travels.

For each competitor: actual price (source and date, converted to pre-VAT), published ratings, hours and what sets them apart, then a positioning map showing the gap.

Market data sources in Saudi Arabia

  • Official population and spending statistics from the General Authority for Statistics.
  • Data published by the sector’s ministries and authorities.
  • Competitors’ published prices on their sites, delivery apps and Google Maps.
  • Published rental listings for comparable locations.
  • Field counts of footfall or traffic at set times.

Anything not documented is written as an assumption with a range and a reason.

What to verify in the field

Some variables are only known by measuring: footfall, a competitor’s peak-hour queue, parking. We send you a precise list of what to measure and how.

Market readings for common projects

Read how these markets developed in Saudi Arabia, with sources (Arabic): specialty coffee, cloud kitchen, grocery, nursery.
